DARENET FIRST ANNUAL PRACTITIONER FORUM IN BUDAPEST

DAREnet stands for “DAnube river region Resilience Exchange Network” and is a practitioner network which aims to strengthen flood resilience in the EU Danube River Region. The transnational, multi-disciplinary network brings together a unique combination of renowned institutions and players in flood management and civil protection in order to deepen and broaden the Research, Development and Innovation related collaboration in the field of flood management.

The Environmental Risks Priority Area of the EUSDR gave two presentations. One of them was a keynote presentation about Strategies to cope with environmental challenges in the Danube river region by Mr László Balatonyi. During the Practitioners reports section, Ms Kinga Perge presented about Red sludge flood in Hungary 2010.

The European funded DAREnet project also presented its Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Roadmap for improved flood resillience in the Danube River Region. The DAREnet RDI Roadmap is the result of an iterative process of identifying, assessing and prioritising promising innovation opportunities to cope with the main environmental and societal challenges of the Danube River Region.

Call for DAREnet Practitioner Initiatives was announcd in during the forum. This call is directed to organisations/institutes active in flood response or management. DAREnet invites to formulate and develop RDI (Research, Development and Innovation) Initiative Concepts according to their needs and addressing key-challenges in the Danube region. Following the orientations given by the DAREnet RDI Roadmap, these concepts will be open to cover a broad range of possible innovations (varying in scope, maturity, geographical outreach).
