It has been established the foundation to preserve the natural habitat along the Danube and its tributaries, to return the land where possible to its original state and to help to restore the beauty and biological diversity. This near utopian vision is our goal and fortunately many people are working along with us to accomplish it. To further encourage the involvement of individuals, groups or organisations in our endeavours to preserve and restore these nautural floodplain habitats, our foundation are offering a prize. This „Living Danube” foundation prize of 15,000€ (€ 10,000 in cash and a gold medal worth € 5,000) will be awarded every two years to people or groups working on the restoration and renaturalization of the Danube and its floodplains.
The first winners were awarded last year by a jury convened from the applications received and decided by the Board of Trustees. The first winners come from Austria, Slovakia and Serbia and show the wide variety of projects and actors in the Danube Region.
The call for applications for the Danube Prize 2022 will be open until 31. July 2021.
