The wildfires are representing an emerging environmental risk. Due to climate change, the number of events and the level of their impact have increased. One of the main aims of the Action plan of the Environmental Risks Priority Area (PA5) of the European Union Strategy or the Danube Region (EUSDR) focuses on strengthening the cooperation between disaster response organizations, which is the main objective of this project.
The volunteer fire brigades from Komárom-Esztergom County, Hungary, and Komarno district, Slovakia have great cooperation. In the past years, the two organizations have started to deepen their collaboration in the field of fire protection. Due to the close location of the fire brigades, cooperation is essential in preparing for the wildfires in their region.
More than 160 participants jointly prepared for wildfires in a field exercise between 23-25 Sept 2021 in Izsa and surroundings, Slovakia. The event was organized by Komárom-Esztergom Firefighter Association and Komarno District Volunteer Firefighter Association. The participants were volunteer fire brigades of the two organizations, also members of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. The role play was provided by the Hungarian Red Cross. The Exercise Control was done by MAGOR Disaster Response.
