DAREX IS ABOUT TO START IN TWO DAYS
Volunteers will gather in the Upper-Tisa Region to practice flood response in a couple of days. Besides the local organizations, many other non-governmental and humanitarian organizations will join the exercise in the upcoming days. There will be units coming from Slovakia and Romania as well. Altogether more than a hundred responders will come together to exercise jointly for better preparedness.
The first information about the exercise scenario was already released to the participants in a form of a “local newsflash” (in Hungarian, urging the participants to cooperate) which writes about the imaginary situation.
According to the scenario extreme weather conditions resulted in heavy damages in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, which has actually occurred in the past days also in reality in the region. There unfortunate events prove that joint response is in fact needed. In the exercise scenario, the situation is escalating, and flooding is very likely to occur.
This exercise is reflecting one of the most important action points of the Environmental Risks Priority Area, which is to strengthen operational cooperation among the emergency response organizations in the Danube countries and to improve the interoperability of the available assets.
The project is co-funded by the European Union (ERDF fund) and Hungary.
